The Latin America Solidarity Coalition’s position on the Honduras situation

Below you will find the Latin America Solidarity Coalition’s stated position with regards to the Tegucigalpa-San Jose Accords in Honduras.

We demand that the:
• US not recognize the scheduled November 29th elections in Honduras;
• US support the right of the Honduran people to boycott the elections without repression from the Micheletti government;
• US denounce human rights abuses when they occur.

In response to the failure of the Tegucigalpa-San Jose Accords, agreed upon by Mr. Roberto Micheletti and President Manuel Zelaya on Friday the 30th of October, our coalition reaffirms our commitment to the counter-coup movement in Honduras, and our support for the 42 organizations that form the National Front Against the Coup. Urgent Action: Call the White House and State Department on Honduras!

Agreement Falls Apart!

[The Alliance for Global Justice has received this important action alert from School of the Americas Watch (SOAW). We urge you to take action.]

We are extremely concerned about the situation in Honduras, where SOA graduates overthrew the democratically elected government on June 28, 2009. An agreement that was brokered last week between representatives of President Zelaya and the coup regime was supposed to “return the holder of executive power to its pre-June 28 state” but it turns out it was just another stalling tactic by the coup regime. [Nicaragua Network note: U.S. Senator Jim DeMint (R-SC) said that U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Assistant Secretary Thomas Shannon had assured him that the US would recognize the outcome of the Honduran elections regardless of whether Manuel Zelaya was reinstated. This is unacceptable.] Read a statement from Honduran President Manuel Zelaya below.
