Save Lives in Honduras

Join the Honduras Solidarity Network’s Emergency Response Network
The following was published by the Honduras Solidarity Network, of which AFGJ is part.

Human rights violations continue to increase in Honduras against the broad-based citizen’s movement, which has been bravely demanding democracy and justice since the coup against elected President Manuel Zelaya June 28, 2009.

May 29th Demonstration Against Arizona’s Racist Law

The Alliance for Global Justice supports the call for a National Demonstration against SB1070 in Phoenix on May 29th. Please click here to read more about participating in the demonstration.

We denounce this law and federal policies that criminalize undocumented workers and militarize the border. SB1070 is the most extreme face of nationwide policies that target Latino people and workers without papers. Read the rest of this entry →

Support Mexico’s Electricians’ Union

In October of last year, the Mexican police and military occupied the Mexican state-owned electric company, Luz y Fuerza del Centro (LFC) displacing 44,000 employees in an attempt to break Mexico’s oldest union, the Sindicato Mexicano de Electricistas (SME). The occupation of the LFC and displacement of the workers was done in the name of privatization and liquidation of a government run energy company. This is another example of “neoliberal reforms” that have weakened unions and hurt workers throughout Mexico over the last decade and a half. Read the rest of this entry →

Get Free Trade Sneak Attack Out of Financial Reregulation Bill!

This message was originally distributed by Public Citizen.

Buried in the 1200-page Senate financial reregulation bill we found a sneaky provision that would undermine state-level insurance consumer protections if they conflict with trade agreements! Yup, the “Office of National Insurance” (ONI) proposal would empower the Treasury Department to unilaterally override existing state insurance regulations that it deems to be out of step with international agreements. Urge your Senators to cosponsor TODAY the “Merkley amendment” which strikes these unfair trade provisions from the bill. Read the rest of this entry →
