The Alliance for Global Justice is under serious threat from attacks by right wing foundations, media and even the United States Congress. Attacks from right wing foundations and media outlets began a couple of years ago. They included a series of articles by Gabe Kaminsky in the Washington Examiner spouting accusations from the Zachor Legal Institute and others that we were Communists and sponsored groups that supported terrorism. These accusations, issued without any proof whatsoever, led to our being deplatformed from the companies that process credit card donations. This applied also to the progressive groups that we fiscally sponsor. You are probably already aware of this.
In recent months, however, the attacks have increased. During their efforts to pass H.R. 9495 (also known as the Non-Profit Kill Bill), the leaders of the House Ways and Means Committee specifically targeted the Alliance for Global Justice asking for our tax-exempt status to be removed. The bill, which would have made it easier to end an organization’s non-profit privileges, passed the House but failed in the Senate. It will undoubtedly be introduced again.
At the same time, the Heritage Foundation’s Project Esther has named AfGJ, along with the Tides Foundation, Jewish Voice for Peace and numerous others, as part of a “Hamas Support Network” which “has a parallel goal of eliminating capitalism and democracy.” The project vows “to render impotent an illegitimate, hateful minority that threatens America’s soul.” This begs the question of who exactly is “hateful” here!
We ask you to contact your US Representatives and Senators and ask them to oppose any resurrection of the Non-Profit Kill Bill. But we also want you to consider an extra urgent donation to help AfGJ through this crisis. Our survival is not a given. It will depend on you and others who have supported us through the years. You will have to dig out your checkbook as we are still unable to process credit card donations!
