LAST CHANCE! Rest, Relaxation, and Resistance in the NEW Colombia, July 27-August 6, 2022

Join the Fundación Lazos de Dignidad and the Alliance for Global Justice in a political solidarity vacation (yes, you read that right—we mean to have fun) to the  NEW Colombia. July 27 through August 6, 2022. Slots are filling up fast! For more information, send an email to: [email protected]

This last Sunday, in the culmination of a wave of popular mobilizations, Colombia elected its first ever Center-Left President and Vice President, Gustavo Petro and Francia Marquez, and its first Afro-Colombian and woman Vice President. With that vote, Colombia has taken a decisive step towards real democracy and the renovation of the 2016 Peace Accords. (You can read the official AFGJ statement on the elections below this announcement.) The dream of a New Colombia is on track towards becoming a reality.

On July 27, we will begin an exciting delegation that will be a mix of eco-tourism, relaxation, and political education, and you are invited to join us. But YOU MUST ACT QUICKLY because slots are filling up. In fact, we urge you, if you are interested, to write us back BEFORE THIS MONDAY, JUNE 27, to make sure you will be able to participate.

The delegation will include two days in an eco-tourism project of the Pondores camp of former guerrillas and peace accord signers; visits to historic and beautiful towns and beaches on the Caribbean coast; dialogue with Wayuu communities in La Guajira; and a tour of the city of Turbaco, followed by a concert, from Mayor Julian Conrado, 2016 peace accord negotiator and signer.

The cost of the delegation is $1,350. The delegation starts in the city of Valledupar and ends in Cartagena. The cost covers all meals, lodging, translation, transportation during the delegation, and park and museum entrance fees. Not included are transportation to Valledupar, and from Cartagena, for the beginning and end of the delegation.

The delegation will end on August 6, 2022. Most of us will be flying back to Bogotá then. People may wish to stay an extra day on their own because August 7, 2022 is the day that President Gustavo Petro and Vice President Francia Marquez will take possession of their offices. Without doubt, Bogotá and Colombia will be celebrating!
