November 17: Rights of Indigenous & Afro-descendant Women in Nicaragua
Casa Benjamin Linder and AFGJ, in close collaboration with Black Alliance for Peace and Friends of the ATC, are excited to invite you to the next Women in Nicaragua: Power & Protagonism series session: Rights of Indigenous & Afro-descendant Women in Nicaragua.
During this conversation, we will have the opportunity to hear from Sharia Downs Morgan, a member of Nicaragua‘s National Assembly. Since her youth, Sharia has been dedicated to her region’s advancement, including health, education, sports, and recreation. She has served as a member of the Municipal Council of Corn Island, as a Government Coordinator, and then as President of the Directive Board of the Southern Caribbean Coast Regional Autonomous Council. Sharia has represented her region at the National Assembly since January 2022.
This class will also feature journalist and producer Makeda Sheffield and Netfa Freeman, a member of the Coordinating Committee of Black Alliance for Peace, an activist with the Pan African Community action in Washington D.C., and host of WPFW’s weekly program, Voices with Vision.
