THE ALLIANCE FOR GLOBAL JUSTICE CONDEMNS THE VIOLENT ACTS AND MASSACRE THAT HAPPENED YESTERDAY IN BUENOS AIRES, CAUCA.
The Alliance for Social Justice forcefully express our outrage for the continued increase of violence in Colombia, particularly in the North region of the department of Cauca and concentrated in the Buenos Aires municipality.
Yesterday, in the ancestral territory of Cerro Teta community council, in the locality of Munchique, seven afro-Colombians were killed, six of them adults and one a minor, and many others injured.
As early as April of 2020, community members, social leaders, and human rights organizations requested the President of Colombia, Ivan Duque Marquez, protection for communities and its inhabitants in the Municipality of Buenos Aires, Causa. Despite early warnings from the Ombudsman’s Office, the government did not act to protect the community in Buenos Aires and Cauca north.
In response the call from the Colombian human rights organizations and community leaders, the AFGJ condemns the failure of the Colombian government to prevent these violent acts and to protect their most vulnerable population, Afro-Colombian indigenous and small farmers.
We ask the Colombian government to:
- Generate the necessary prevention and protection measures to protect the life of its citizens, community leaders, human rights defenders, defenders of ethnic rights and peace signees.
- Implement the recommendations made by the Ombudsman’s Office in its Early Alerts No. 018-20 of imminence, on April 30, 2020 and N ° 019-20, on May 8, 2020.
- Guarantee the implementation of the peace agreement for the termination of the internal armed conflict in the territories
LA ALIANZA POR LA JUSTICIA GLOBAL CONDENA LOS ACTOS VIOLENTOS Y LA MASACRE OCURRIDA EN LA VEREDA DE MUNCHIQUE, BUENOS AIRES, CAUCA.
La Alianza por la Justicia Global expresa nuestra indignación por el continuo aumento de la violencia en Colombia, particularmente en la región norte del departamento del Cauca y concentrada en el municipio de Buenos Aires.
Ayer, en el territorio ancestral del Cabildo Comunitario Cerro Teta, en la vereda de Munchique, resultaron muertos siete afrocolombianos, seis de ellos adultos y uno menor de edad, y muchos otros heridos.
Desde abril del 2020, comuneros, líderes sociales y organizaciones de derechos humanos solicitaron al presidente de Colombia, Iván Duque Márquez, protección para la vida de los campesinos de esta zona. A pesar de las primeras advertencias de la Defensoría del Pueblo, el gobierno no actuó para proteger a la comunidad en Buenos Aires y el norte del Cauca.
En respuesta al llamado de las organizaciones colombianas de derechos humanos y líderes comunitarios, la AFGJ condena el fracaso del gobierno colombiano en prevenir estos actos violentos y proteger a su población más vulnerable, las comunidades afrocolombianas, indígenas y campesinas.
Pedimos al gobierno colombiano:
- Generar las medidas de prevención y protección necesarias para proteger la vida de sus ciudadanos, líderes comunitarios, defensores de derechos humanos, defensores de derechos étnicos y signatarios de la paz.
- Implementar las recomendaciones formuladas por la Defensoría del Pueblo en sus Alertas Tempranas No. 018-20 de inminencia, el 30 de abril de 2020 y N ° 019-20, el 8 de mayo de 2020.
- Garantizar la implementación del acuerdo de paz para la terminación del conflicto armado interno en los territorios.
