As we continue to build the US-Canadian campaign to end sanctions against Venezuela, Steve Ellner will join us to share his analysis of this post electoral period. On the one-year anniversary of the Trump Administration’s expansion of the sanctions against Venezuela, Steve will talk about how sanctions harm ordinary ordinary Venezuelans.

Steve Ellner has taught economic history at the Universidad de Oriente in Puerto La Cruz, Venezuela since 1977. He is the author of numerous books and journal and magazine articles on Venezuela history and politics. His most recent book is his edited “The Pink Tide Experiences: Breakthroughs and Shortcomings in Twenty-First Century Latin America (Rowman and Littlefield, 2019). He frequently lectures on Venezuela and Latin American political developments in the U.S. and elsewhere. He received his Ph.D. in Latin American history at the University of New Mexico in 1980.
