The News This Week from Venezuela and Alba
The US sanctions imposed on Venezuela August have already robbed it of at least more than $3 billion, by freezing its assets. Foreign Minister Arreaza condemned “the absolute coordination between the US government’s anti-democratic imperialist policy against Venezuela’s democracy” and the European Union and Canada to target Caracas. Venezuela has had difficulty in making payments on debt, which the Maduro government blames on US sanctions and on growing controls international banks are applying on transactions originating from the country.
