Internationalist 360: The “Other” Farewell Letter from  Che Guevara to Fidel Castro In this letter, Che developed four points:  1) Errors in Economic Policy; 2) The Budget Financing System; 3) The Function of the Party; and 4) General Recommendations. Ernesto Che Guevara’s “other” letter opportunely complements Socialism and Man in Cuba and the famous speech of Algiers in February 1965, essential works to delve deeper into the legacy of Argentine-Cuban, urgent for the times we live in. Full letter, with commentary, here.

Alfred de Zayas: The Weaponization of Human Rights at the Human Rights Council The HRC has become predominantly a platform for those who engage in war-mongering and incitement to hatred. This fails to alleviate the suffering of victims and only satisfies the strategic aims of certain governments, non-governmental organizations and of a burgeoning human rights industry that instrumentalize human rights for the purpose of destabilizing others and often enough to facilitate “regime change.”  To argue that Unilateral Coercive Measures [UMC] are intended to “punish” a country for real or alleged human rights violations is a form of sacrilege or blasphemy. There are plenty of studies documenting the adverse impact of UCM’s, including that of Jeffrey Sachs and Marc Weisbrot about the counter-productive UCM’s imposed by the US against Venezuela.

Mision Verdad: Is a New Conflict Coming in Venezuela? With the beginning of 2023 came the warning that the country could experience an escalation of demonstrations with the potential to evolve into a scenario of pressure and conflict over the Bolivarian Government via union agendas… USAID presented a report detailing its plan for “support to the democratic transition” in Venezuela. The US approved the largest amount of financial funds for NGOs in Venezuela, using these entities as a screen behind which its interventionism operates. The Wilson Center (one of the three main think tanks, along with Atlantic Council and Center for Strategic and International Studies that focus on Venezuela and have ascendancy in White House) admits that there must be a combination of “pressure and concessions”,  in the understanding that the latter implies sitting down with the Venezuelan government to negotiate conditions for a “transition” ( “regime change”).

Peoples Dispatch: Cuba and Venezuela condemn EU’s unilateralism ahead of CELAC-EU Summit On July 17 and 18, heads of state from the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States and the European Union will meet for the III CELAC-EU Heads of State Summit. On July 12, the European Parliament voted (359 votes in favor, 226 against, and 50 abstentions) to approve a resolution which strongly condemns the Cuban government for a wide range of alleged human rights violations and called for the European Union to impose sanctions on Cuban officials, “starting with Miguel Díaz-Canel.” Tensions further increased when Latin American leaders received the draft declaration for the summit prepared by the EU block which explicitly condemned Russia and expressed support to Ukraine in its war efforts, a position not held by the majority of the CELAC countries who have remained neutral throughout the war.

Ultima Noticias: Non-Aligned Movement Reiterates Support for Venezuela and President Maduro Against US Blockade“The Ministers of Foreign Relations of the NAM rejected the unilateral coercive measures imposed on high officials of the Venezuelan State, as well as the unilateral economic, commercial and financial coercive measures, illegally imposed against the nation, since August 25, 2017, which have a direct impact on the Venezuelan people, affecting the full enjoyment of their human rights.”

Orinoco Tribune: Trump Lashes Out At Venezuela Again in Campaign Speech During his recent speeches, it has become common for Trump to mention Venezuela to attack or discredit the South American nation. “This is the most important election in the history of our country,” bellowed Trump. “We are going to have a country that is going to be bigger than ever, or we are going to have a country that will be like Venezuela.”
